Pet Sitter Nightmare
Logline
When a teen takes a pet sitting job for her new neighbor, she has no idea that he is arranging her disappearance to hold her prisoner in his bunker as a replacement for his deceased daughter.
Synopsis
Casey is a typical teen who wants more money than she has. When her friend Mary wants them to attend a concert together, Casey scrambles to find a way where she can earn what she needs for a ticket. When everything looks hopeless, her new neighbor, Peter, asks if she will pet sit his cat Sadie while he leaves for a couple of weeks due to his mom’s death. Casey is more than thrilled to take the job and arranges to buy her concert ticket.
She starts work the next morning, then spends the day with her boyfriend Brad. When she returns home that evening, her parents are out with friends and her little brother Bryce is too involved in his video games to even notice she’s back. Casey goes next door and takes care of Sadie. She notices a family picture of Peter’s with his ex-wife and two teen daughters, one having a strong resemblance to her.
Peter comes out of nowhere and uses chloroform on her. She wakes inside a bunker built off of Peter’s basement where a keypad operates the steel door. Peter explains he misses his daughter and needs her companionship. After a failed escape attempt, Casey grows hopeless that she will ever be free again.
Her parents, Rob and Joyce, do everything they can to find their daughter. After learning that Brad dropped her off at the house but didn’t stay long enough to watch her enter, there are two possible scenarios. Either she ran away on her own, or someone grabbed her before she made it inside or when she went to Peter’s. Her parents don’t believe she had any reason to run off so they are certain someone took her. Since Peter was out of state, he’s not a suspect.
Brad begins to suspect Peter when the police do not. He goes to the house late at night and snoops around, coming across Casey’s promise ring by the porch. Little does he know that at the same time, Casey has made another escape attempt and was tased by Peter. Brad goes around back to check the door and encounters Peter, who whacks him with a shovel.
When Casey shakes off the taser’s effects, she finds Brad unconscious in the bunker. He wakes and returns the ring to her, right before Peter drags him off to the garage and suffocates him. He ditches Brad inside his car in a park and returns home.
Peter wants Casey to be happy so he kidnaps her best friend, Mary. Casey realizes they have to find a way out before it’s too late and creates a plan to discover the door’s code. By pretending to be Peter’s deceased daughter, she earns his trust and that is just enough to trick him. In a battle for their lives, Casey and Mary work together to take him down while Joyce uncovers the truth and attempts a rescue. She helps the girls to survive, and Casey is allowed to take in Sadie since she is homeless after Peter’s death.
