A Deadly Fate
Logline
After playing poker with a deck of cursed cards belonging to an evil magician, several teens receive a picture of how they will die within 24 hours, forcing a detective to try and save the last survivor from her deadly fate.
Synopsis
A group of college kids decides to spend the night at an abandoned house ready to be torn down. They discover an old trunk belonging to a magician and are drawn to the deck of cards they find inside. After playing strip poker, Ron, the first to touch the cards, appears to have hanged himself overnight. His friends don’t know that right before he died, one of the cards appeared to him with his image on the back, hanging from a rope.
Mike was the second to touch the cards. While visiting his parents, a car in the garage turns on by itself and floods the house with gas after he receives his death card. Unable to get out of the house due to mysterious forces, he succumbs. Karen is next, dying in her sorority house kitchen when she slips on soap and a knife falls from the counter.
Tracy is doing yard work for a professor when she finds the water hose stuck beneath the house. She fails to see the death card for her, showing death by bees. While under the house to free the hose, she knocks a bees nest loose and is attacked by the creatures she is allergic to. Fellow students rush to her aide but it is too late.
That leaves two survivors, Brad and Linda. With the help of Dan, a detective working the case, they come to realize that the cards were cursed by their owner to bring death to anyone other than him who touches them within 24 hours of the card appearing. Brad is next in the pecking order. He decides that if he’s going to die, he’s going to live it up first by partying like there’s no tomorrow. Linda likes the idea and gets a full makeover to Dan’s approval.
Once Brad’s card appears and shows that he dies by a car crushing him, he attempts to take his own life first, only that becomes impossible. No matter what he tries, he fails to die. Dan stays with him overnight for protection. As the 24 hours come to a close, Brad breathes a sigh of relief. Unfortunately, Linda and Dan realize that Brad’s clock was off by a couple of minutes. A car crashes into the house and crushes Brad.
Linda’s card appears, showing she will die by drowning. Dan whisks her away to the big city where drowning will be much harder but his new car breaks down in a mountainous area on the way there. The car is towed but the couple is forced to rent a cabin for the night. Following a romantic encounter, Linda takes a shower. She slips on shower gel and strikes her head, knocking her out. Her foot closes the drain and water accumulates. By the time Dan realizes what is happening and attempts a daring rescue, Linda is already dead. When his desperate attempts to revive her fail, he pleads with fate to take him instead. Linda coughs up water and survives the 24 hour mark.
An associate of Dan’s who touched the cards earlier receives his warning and dies as depicted. Then it’s the lab technician’s turn, the only one standing in the way of Dan receiving his deadly fate.
